Its official name is Jusangjeollidae (주상절리대), and Korean maps also label it Daepo Coast Jusangjeollidae (대포해안주상절리대).

How did the columns at Jusangjeolli form?

The columns formed when lava cooled quickly and shrank.
Lava at about 1,100 degrees Celsius flowed out here, and as it cooled it cracked into upright columns with four to six sides.
The Encyclopedia of Seogwipo Culture records that columns of this kind appear along about 3.5 km of the Jungmun and Daepo coast.

Some people call the place Jisatgae Rocks (지삿개바위), after Jisatgae, the old name of this shore.

How much is the entrance fee at Jusangjeolli Cliff?

The entrance fee is 2,000 KRW for adults and 1,000 KRW for youths and children.
Youth tickets are for ages 13 to 24, and child tickets are for ages 7 to 12.
Groups of 10 or more paying visitors get a lower rate.

What are the opening hours and the last entry time?

Jusangjeolli Cliff opens at 09:00 and closes at 17:50, and last entry is at 17:30.
Visit Jeju lists it as open all year.
The hours change with the sunset time and no seasonal timetable is published, so closing can come earlier in the months when the sun sets early.

Naver Place shows 09:00 to 17:10 for this site, which differs from the official guide.
We follow the Seogwipo public attractions guide here.
If you plan to arrive after 17:00, call 064-738-1521 first.

Is parking free at Jusangjeolli Cliff?

The Seogwipo public attractions guide and Visit Jeju both list a free parking lot at the cliff.
Read the sign at the lot entrance before you park.

Is the cliff closed in rain or high waves?

Yes, entry can be stopped when the weather is bad.
Visit Jeju says that when the sea is rough, waves hitting the columns throw spray more than 20 meters into the air.
On a rainy or windy day, call 064-738-1521 before you set out.

Visit Jeju also says to call ahead and ask whether pets can enter.

Can I get to Jusangjeolli Cliff by bus?

Yes, get off at the Jeju International Convention Center stop (제주국제컨벤션센터) and walk about 15 minutes.
The Seogwipo public attractions guide lists buses 510, 520, 521 and 690 for this stop.

By car or taxi, use the address 36-30 Ieodo-ro.
Google Maps has limited directions in Korea, so we suggest Naver Map or KakaoMap.
Paste the Korean address from the first table into either app, or show it to your taxi driver.
The Korean page of Visit Jeju and Naver Place write the address as 36-24 Ieodo-ro, so you may see either number on a map.
The Encyclopedia of Seogwipo Culture also notes that the cliff is on Jeju Olle Route 8 (제주올레 8코스), so walkers on that route pass it.

What can I see near Jusangjeolli Cliff?

Cheonjeyeon Waterfall (천제연폭포) is about 3 km away by road, which is a rough map estimate.
It is a waterfall in three tiers with an arched footbridge called Seonimgyo (선임교).
Jusangjeolli Cliff takes less than 1 hour, so the two fit into one half day in the Jungmun area.

Place Fee Hours
Cheonjeyeon Waterfall Adults 2,500 KRW, youths and children 1,350 KRW 09:00 to 17:50, last entry 17:10

Last entry at Cheonjeyeon is 17:10, which is 20 minutes earlier than at Jusangjeolli Cliff.
If you plan both for one afternoon, do not leave the waterfall too late.

Where can I stay in Seogwipo?

Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff is about 25 minutes by car from Hotel Seogwipean (rough map estimate).
We run Hotel Seogwipean on the coastal road in Bomok-dong, Seogwipo.
All 30 rooms face the sea toward Munseom Island.
Check-in starts at 16:00 at the lobby kiosk and parking is free.
Boraed Bakers on the ground floor is open from 08:00 to 20:00 every day.
