When do camellias bloom in Jeju?
Camellias in Jeju start to bloom in November and continue into early spring.
The gardens around Seogwipo give slightly different seasons.
| Place | Season given by the source |
|---|---|
| Hueree Natural Park (휴애리 자연생활공원) | Camellia festival from November to January |
| Camellia Forest (동백포레스트) | Blooms in November and stays in pink bloom until February |
| Wimi-ri camellia grove (위미 동백나무 군락) | Red flowers from late autumn to early spring |
| Camellia Hill | No bloom months on Visit Jeju. Our Korean guide says winter to early spring |
Our Korean guide puts the fullest bloom in December and January and suggests planning a camellia trip after mid-November.
No official source we read gives a peak date, and the bloom moves from year to year.
In October it is still too early for camellias.
What can I see at Camellia Hill in other seasons?
In October the autumn garden is the main sight, with pink muhly, silver grass and pampas grass.
Visit Jeju says the garden holds more than 500 camellia varieties from 80 countries, from native Korean camellias to sasanqua and European camellias.
Hydrangeas open at the start of summer.
Visit Jeju names three photo spots.
They are a path called Saesori Baramsori-gil (새소리바람소리길), a traditional lane lined with Jeju stone walls and a camellia grove hung with yellow light bulbs.
The dol hareubang (돌하르방) stone figures around the garden are dressed for each season.
Where else can I see camellias around Seogwipo?
The other camellia spots in our Korean guide are in Namwon-eup, east of downtown Seogwipo, mostly around Wimi-ri and Sillye-ri.

Jeju Camellia Arboretum stands on private land.
Visit Jeju dates its fee to December 2022 and says it has no days off in the winter season.
Call 0507-1374-4473 before you go.
The Wimi-ri grove is Jeju Provincial Monument number 39.
Hyeon Maeng-chun (1858 to 1933) bought a piece of wasteland there and sowed camellia seeds from Hallasan (한라산) to block the wind.
Sinheung 2-ri runs programs such as camellia soap making and camellia bibimbap, booked by phone or on the village website.
The UN World Tourism Organization selected it for its 2023 tourism village list.
Can I bring a dog to Camellia Hill, and is there parking?
Yes, pets under 8 kg can enter on a leash, and the garden has a parking lot.
Visit Jeju adds that the pet rule should be checked with the garden before a visit.
Naver Place shows the parking as free.
We found no parking fee and no number of spaces on the official website, so check the sign on site.
How do I get to Camellia Hill?
By car or taxi, use the address 166 Byeongak-ro in Andeok-myeon, on the southwest side of the island.
Google Maps has limited directions in Korea, so we suggest Naver Map or KakaoMap.
Copy the Korean address from the table above into either app, or show it to your taxi driver.
The Namwon-eup spots are on the other side of downtown Seogwipo.
Our Korean guide pairs one or two of them in the morning with Camellia Hill in the afternoon.
Where can I stay in Seogwipo?
Camellia Hill is about 35 minutes by car from Hotel Seogwipean (rough map estimate).
We run Hotel Seogwipean on the coastal road in Bomok-dong, Seogwipo.
All 30 rooms face the sea toward Munseom Island.
Check-in starts at 16:00 at the lobby kiosk and parking is free.
Boraed Bakers on the ground floor is open from 08:00 to 20:00 every day.

We recommend Camellia Hill for travelers who stay in Seogwipo in December or January to see camellias, and for autumn visitors who want pink muhly and pampas grass in one garden.
