Hello from the Seogwipean Project team.
We run Hotel Seogwipean and Boraed Bakers in Bomok-dong, Seogwipo, and Seogwipean Bakery in Seongsan.
Silver grass (억새) on Jeju peaks from mid-October to early November, according to the Jeju Tourism Organization.
It grows on the oreum (오름), the small volcanic cones found across the island, and of the seven places in this post six list no admission fee and one charges 7,000 KRW for adults.
When is silver grass season on Jeju?
Silver grass on Jeju peaks from mid-October to early November.
The Jeju Tourism Organization gave that window in the autumn travel guide it released in September.
Visit Jeju, the official tourism site of the island, says the native silver grass of Jeju is in full bloom between October and November and keeps its color into winter.
A trip in November is not too late.
Where are the seven silver grass spots and how long is each walk?
The seven places are five oreum, one crater and one coastal trail, from Aewol in the west to Gujwa in the east.

What is Saebyeol Oreum like in silver grass season?
Saebyeol Oreum is a 519.3 m cone in western Jeju, and in October silver grass runs from the flat ground at its foot up to the ridge.
The climb to the top takes 20 to 30 minutes.
There are entrances on the east and west sides, and the west trail is steeper.
On a clear day you can see the west coast and Biyangdo Island (비양도) from the top.

There is a public parking lot at the entrance.
Visit Jeju lists the oreum as open all year and does not list an admission fee or a parking fee.
It also warns about snakes and ticks, so long pants are a good idea.
The 2026 Jeju Dosaegi Festival, a local pork festival, is reported for 17 and 18 October around Saebyeol Oreum.
The dates come from local news reports and not from an official notice, and that weekend is likely to be crowded.
How long does Ttarabi Oreum take?
Ttarabi Oreum takes 20 to 30 minutes to the top, and the crater loop makes it a round trip of 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.
It has three craters and six peaks.
Silver grass starts right at the foot of the trail.
There is no admission fee and no restroom.
What are the opening hours and ticket prices at Sangumburi Crater?
Sangumburi Crater is open from 09:00 to 18:40 through October, with last entry at 18:00.
From November to February it closes at 17:40, with last entry at 17:00.
Tickets cost 7,000 KRW for adults and 6,000 KRW for teenagers and children aged 4 and over.

The crater is a designated Natural Monument, about 2,700 m around the outer rim and 132 m deep.
A gentle path leads past wide fields of silver grass to an observation deck, and the official guide gives about 40 minutes for the visit.
Pets and drones are not allowed.
Parking is listed as free on Naver Place.
Which other places have silver grass?
Four more places have silver grass, and none of them has an admission fee.
- Yongnuni Oreum The slope is gentle and the top takes about 15 minutes. It reopened on 1 July 2023 after a rest period of 2 years and 4 months.
- Akkeun Darangswi Oreum A small cone next to Darangswi Oreum (다랑쉬오름), about 10 minutes to the top. There is no parking lot, and navigation apps do not always find the exact spot.
- Geum Oreum The crater at the top holds water, and you can see Hallasan (한라산) and Biyangdo Island.
- Dakmeoreu Coastal Trail A seaside path of about 1.8 km, around 30 minutes, with silver grass and the sunset along the sea.
Are any oreum closed right now?
Yes, some oreum are closed under the natural rest-year system of Jeju.
Doneori Oreum (도너리오름) is closed until 31 December 2026 and the summit area of Songaksan (송악산) until 31 July 2027.
Mulchat Oreum (물찻오름) and Baegyagi Oreum (백약이오름) are closed until further notice.
These dates come from a news report in December 2024, and Jeju issued new oreum guidelines in April this year, so the list may have changed.
Call the Jeju Tourism Information Center at 064-740-6000 before you go.
How do I get there and what should I bring?
Use Naver Map or KakaoMap to get there, because Google Maps directions are limited in Korea.
Many oreum have a mountain lot number and no street address, so check that the pin lands on the trail entrance before you set off.
Oreum have little shade and strong wind, so bring a hat, a light jacket and sneakers.
It gets dark quickly after sunset, so carry a flashlight if you go late in the day.
From Seogwipo, Ttarabi Oreum pairs well with Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속마을) or Pyoseon Beach (표선해수욕장).
Yongnuni Oreum and Akkeun Darangswi Oreum are close to each other in the east, and Saebyeol Oreum and Geum Oreum work well together in the west near sunset.
Where are our hotel and bakeries?
We are the Seogwipean Project.
We run a hotel and a bakery cafe in Bomok-dong, Seogwipo, and a bakery cafe in Seongsan on the east coast.
If your route passes the south or the east of the island, you are welcome to stop by.
| Place | Where | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Seogwipean | 178 Bomok-ro 64beon-gil, Seogwipo | 30 ocean view rooms, check-in from 16:00, free parking |
| Boraed Bakers | Ground floor of Hotel Seogwipean | Daily 08:00 to 20:00, last order 19:20 |
